This Friday we are excited to welcome New York resident Anthony Naples into the studio for this weeks Open Deck. With only two releases to his name, this guy is already over in europe touring and playing venues as illustrious as Berlin’s Panorama Bar. God only knows what the future holds for this young producer. Tune in on Friday at 2pm to hear what he has in store for us…

Hey, how are you?

Great.

You’ve been touring Europe for the past few weeks, have you been over before? Any particular highlights?

Paaaaaannnnoooooorrrrrrrrraaaaaammmmaaaaa bar

No never been! It’s great fun, pretty cool phrases in the UK for sure like “what you saying?” and “you alright?”… Will definitely take those back home with me. Some non musical highlights are – the All Caps at Le Cheetah, Hangin out with Will B and the Palace crew in London, and getting Kieran (Four Tet) to pose by a Red Phonebooth near Big Ben for a picture. Berlin as a whole has been relaxing for sure.

I read that you harboured some doubts about DJ’ing – has the tour influenced this at all?

I’m really bad at making sense of what I think – I don’t actually have doubts at all, I love doing it, I just have doubts as to how good I am and then assuring myself it’s worth it for the promotor to have me. But I love to do it!

Are you looking forward to getting back to New York or is it all over too soon?

I miss my girlfriend, friends, and not living out of a bag… But the UK and Germany have been really amazing and all the people I’ve met and stayed with have made me feel right at home. I don’t mind that I’m going back because ill be back in six weeks anyways for the secretsundaze event.

Last year saw you release your first tunes, and remix Four Tet – a pretty good first year! Can it be topped?! What does this year hold?

I’m not trying to top anything, I just hope to expand my sound more and not retrace any steps in terms of the kinds of music I’m releasing. This year a few remixes, a white label, and an EP on The Trilogy Tapes should be out in spring, and beyond that I haven’t really given it much thought, just taking it easy for now while all those come out. Probably more records though for sure.

In your RA interview you say that you never ‘jam’, that it’s you, a laptop and a mouse. Do you enjoy the structure that this setup provides? And are you at all intrigued by hardware?

Yeah again, I’m just shit at explaining myself. At the time that’s all I had, now I am using a mix of both, or variations between the two.

I’m always intrigued what kind of stuff people listen to that they wouldn’t necessarily play at a gig or expect from their productions. What kind of stuff is it with you?

Black Dice!!!!

If there was one record you insisted everyone that reads this checks out – what would it be?
